I fill a lot of roles but the one that has helped me keep my sanity over the past 25 years has been that of a runner. I look for ways to constantly challenge myself, and last March solicited the help of a coach who helped shave 37 minutes off of my marathon time giving me a PR of 3:32:02 and qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Yes…I will run it April 2013.
I have many friends and family members who continually ask me how I keep my motivation and always get my runs in. I don’t think of it as a chore. I think of it as a gift to myself. I read a quote once that “Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” It’s just a habit that I created many moons ago when I realized I enjoyed getting out and escaping for an hour, two, or more sometimes.
One night a few weeks ago I couldn’t sleep and started thinking about a running blog. There are so many thoughts that run through my head when I’m out running and I think to myself “I should really share that with someone.” So, it might be a motivational pep talk one day, and a swift kick in the butt the next. But I hope that you enjoy not simply reading my blogs but find new energy and motivation in running. Whether you’re a life-long runner or new to the game, we’re all in this together.
Happy Running.
